Hasni Chakroune was born 1968 in Gambetta in Oran. His single mother was a cleaner. Hasni loved football and became a player in the local team (ASCO).
He learned singing in choirs and at family parties, where he sang as an 18-years-old songs of Benchenet or Khaled.
Hasni has been a very productive singer … He released about 100 cassettes. He got influenced by European entertainment music and also by Lebanese singers like Magda Roumi.
Hasni is called the king of Raï-Love, because in his songs he expressed the deep feeling of uneasiness of the Algerian youth, that had to deal with a lack of affection.
On September 29th 1994 Hasni got shot down by fundamentalists in the centre of Oran, in front of his house.
